- When I was young, I set up my own tropical aquariums, created several insect collections, and cultivated vegetable gardens. In my sophomore year of college, I spent two and half weeks in the Ecuadorian rainforests as a participant in Dr. John L. Clark’s Tropical Plant Systematics course. During this time, I was very impressed with Professor Clark's energetic passion for the importance of plants in our environment.
